Subwhere Tokyo

English

Subwhere Tokyo(以下「Subwhere」または「本アプリ」)は、スウェーデンのAppLand(Stefan Almqvist、以下「当方」)が提供しています。

Apple

Subwhere Tokyo – Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 October 2026

Subwhere Tokyo ("Subwhere", "the app") is made by AppLand, Stefan Almqvist, Sweden ("we"). This policy explains what the app does with information about you. In short: we don't collect any personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.

What the app uses, and where it stays

Your location. Subwhere uses your location to place the trains relative to where you are standing and to find your nearest station. Your location is used on your device only. It is never sent to us, never stored as a history, and never shared or sold.

The home-screen widget. If you add the widget, it also uses your location, even when the app is closed, to show your nearest station's departures. This too happens on your device. If you pin a station in Edit Widget, the widget doesn't need your location at all.

The camera. The camera is used for augmented reality (AR): Apple's ARKit compares what the camera sees with the buildings around you to work out where the phone is, so the trains can be drawn in place. The camera image is processed on your device and is never recorded, stored or sent to us.

Saved on your device. The app keeps a few things on your phone so that it and the widget work: the station list, the last departures it showed, whether you have finished the introduction, and your language choice (日本語 or English). They stay on your device and are removed when you delete the app.

Train data

The train positions, timetables and line status come from the Public Transportation Open Data Center (ODPT): Toei's data under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, Tokyo Metro's under the Public Transportation Open Data Basic License. The app fetches them through a small service of ours that runs on Cloudflare.

  • These requests carry no account, no identifier and no location. When the widget asks for one station's departures, the request names that station (for example "Shinjuku"), and nothing else about you.
  • Like any internet request, they reach Cloudflare from your device's IP address, which Cloudflare uses to deliver the answer. We keep no logs of these requests, and we don't see or store IP addresses. Cloudflare's handling of network data is described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Apple's services

  • ARKit (AR positioning) and Apple Maps (the map) are Apple's. To position the phone in AR and to draw the map, iOS may download map and localization data for your area from Apple. That is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; we receive none of it.
  • If you test the app through TestFlight, Apple shares crash reports and the feedback you choose to send with us, as described in Apple's TestFlight terms. We use them only to fix the app.

Email

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and use them only to answer you. We don't add you to any list, and we delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed.

Permissions

You decide what the app may use, and you can change it at any time in Settings › Subwhere (camera, location). Without location access the trains can't be placed around you, but the map still works. Without the camera, AR doesn't work; the map does.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and it collects no personal data from anyone, children included.

Your rights

Since we hold no personal data from the app, there is normally nothing to access, correct or delete. If you have emailed us, you can ask us to delete that correspondence. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Sweden, where AppLand is based, the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY); in the United Kingdom, the ICO; in Japan, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC).

Not affiliated

Subwhere is not affiliated with or endorsed by Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd., the Bureau of Transportation, Tokyo Metropolitan Government (Toei), or the Public Transportation Open Data Center.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
